Pain Smart was founded by Dr. Marco Duran, a double board-certified anesthesiologist and pain management specialist. He is dedicated to delivering the highest quality care to his patients while minimizing the risks associated with medication regimens that have faced recent scrutiny. Dr. Duran's primary focus is on procedural interventions utilizing the latest advanced techniques in pain management. also emphasizes the importance of selecting the right patients for these procedures and believes in optimizing alternative management strategies, including exercise, proper nutrition, and emotional well-being, to help individuals cope with chronic pain effectively.

Dr. Duran completed his formal education with a prestigious fellowship in Interventional Pain Management at the University of Illinois in Chicago. During this time, he refined his expertise in both basic and advanced interventional techniques under the guidance of leaders in the field. This fellowship also provided him the opportunity rotate through esteemed institutions such as the University of Chicago, Northwestern, and Rush University, enriching his understanding and equipping him with a diverse array of perspectives to excel as a proceduralist and pain surgeon.
Anesthesiology Residency
Case Western Reserve University
As part of his ongoing journey toward a career in anesthesiology, he completed a residency at Case Western Reserve University. During this time, he had the opportunity to rotate through prestigious institutions, including the Cleveland Clinic, where he developed his expertise in critical care, cardiovascular anesthesia, trauma, and various other subspecialties in Anesthesiology. Including, most importantly for the future, Interventional Pain Management.

Dr. Duran completed an internal medicine internship at the Phoenix campus of the University of Arizona College of Medicine, where he acquired essential knowledge and experience vital for the effective management of his patients. Throughout this rigorous program, he dedicated himself to mastering the foundational breadth of knowledge required for exemplary medical practice.

Dr. Duran pursued his medical education for four years at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, gaining extensive experience in a diverse array of medical specialties.
